wendyhouse is warm & it really helps to get the creative juices flowing. I am slave to my new stove.....the one with bells & whistles courtesy of Esse. I can wholeheartedly recommend it for cooking & keeping cosy......see !

Urghhhhhhh - it's cold & we are still waiting for our new wendyhouse stove to keep our little tootsies warm & the creative juices flowing. It's been a long time since I posted a post so time to start again. I keep thinking about warm fires, films, hot chocolate & cake.....some of the very best things (except a good G&T on a hot day !)

I feel like the queen

 Despite the Goverment slashing my tax credits from £270 pcm to £23.00 (resulting in a sense of  both hate & despair...) I have been feeling slightly regal whilst sitting on our downstairs throne.....as Kitters says " I bet even the Queen doesn't have a glittery toilet seat & she is REALLY posh" !!

It looks like summer is over , it was short & sweet.

I managed to dig 1/2 of the garden which must now ( in spite of one dry week) be classified as a bog, I am digging out loads of moss in addition to the thousands of weeds. Am also hobbling having done something to my back whilst dragging a barrow full of gravel up the steps....as a result I can no longer reach the weeds - hurrahhh.

The return of winter means I now have to tidy the house.......in time for our easter guests.

The new car is chugging away quite nicely, it is very clean & shiny & smells quite fragrant too. BUT, it has an electric handbrake, a completely pointless invention if ever there was one, it will be a long time before I even attempt a hill start.....quite tricky when you live in a very hilly bit of Scotland........it is true, we too are having a heatwave. It is a complete relief to see the sunshine after non-stop rain for the last nine months. I now have to dig out all the moss that has overtaken my flower beds & vegetable patch - I try & see it as part of my failing fitness regime.

I have been thinking that it is about time I actually started do something about my new year's resolutions  so I have taken the momentous step &  purchased a "couch potato to athlete" running app for my phone though I am still very much at the couch potato end as I haven't yet taken it out !

Hmmmmmm

the prospect of a new (well NOT brand new) car should fill me with joy but more a rather sicky feeling of dread.....tied to the financial commitment for YEARS, urghhhhhh

I DO sometimes wonder why we left London...I miss the culture, I miss my friends, I miss the shops but this morning when I went out for my healthy  trudge, I saw a mummy & baby deer standing right next to me....FANTASTIC.....it's good to commune with nature & on our doorstep too.

Fasting & Abstinence

Well, my New Year's Resolutions are going SO badly that they have all made the shortlist for Lent......giving up crisps is a leading contender although there are other possibilities:
do more (exercise that is)
eat less (bad things)
look more glamorous & wear high heels (hmmmm - I really DO need to do this)
be even nicer to my children (difficult)
sell more cards (vital)
get more clients (even more vital !)
HELP - I can't possibly do all of them

has anyone eaten a cold fish finger ?

There always seems to be great anticipation for pancakes in our house which is great - we are already planning what we are going to have tomorrow. I love them but kitters & flicks want chocolate, maple syrup, lemon sugar etc etc etc - as a dutiful mother I cook them - eat the ones that are NOT perfect which often amount to more than I would actually choose to eat THEN I have to eat the ones they leave because they are full - by that time they are cold, I shouldn't do it, really but I can't throw them away......has anyone eaten a cold fish finger rather than put in the bin or is that just me ?

I joined this group on linked-in thinking it may be useful & possibly even interesting. After posting a post about equal pay for women I find I am getting a hard time from an ex-army (US) nut: a man who clearly hates women......not what I was really expecting to find.

My new years resolutions have NOT being going well:
I have a pile of oranges (what is the collective name for oranges ??) waiting to be made into marmalade before they rot.
It is a non-stop nagathon to try & get K&F to behave & stop fighting, so I am not being very nice to them.
Top client is going to call it a day......can't afford to keep paying me, aghhhhh.
Web site not finished so have not yet contacted agents to try & sell cards.
Done one pr mailshot need to do more.
Excersise programme not great, interrupted by one week of chicken pox & about to be disrupted by another as flicks came out in spots today.
Healthy eating hopeless....had to finish the xmas chocolate ( I have been rationing myself to small daily dose rather than eating it all in one go which does show some self restraint, I think) and made scones with kitters this afternoon, of course, that was education & children's entertainment rolled into one.
Did manage to pursuade Tim to fix lamp I got for xmas LAST year & now it works, a triumph !
Keep being distracted by Sunday papers (it does take me ALL week to read them - I really don't know how people have the time to read a paper every day, well probably less telly & a later bed time & maybe getting up even earlier) rather than cleaning my filthy house or bringing in logs or going for a walk.
Infact, I think reading the papers is bad for me as everytime I open a paper, I seem to end up reading about the horrendous possibility of devolution which would make Alex Salmond even more smug than he actually is. I already have an overwhelming desire to punch him whenever I see him speak.....so it is clearly having a negative effect on my otherwise calm & rational & easy going nature.
EEEEEEnough.

Trademen - where are they ?

we have had 3 different estimates for local builders to fix our roof & arranged for each one to start work beginning in Sept 2011.......we are still waiting for someone to turn up or even phone to say they can't make it !

2 x estimates for local electricians to come & fix our outside lights.....still waiting.

2 x estimates to get chimney sorted.....one no show & one came on the wrong day & still hasn't been back.

I wonder whether we will ever be able to get this work done before the house falls down ???

I had heard mutterings of chicken pox parties but NOT here everyone giving us very wide berth indeed ! up to my armpits in calamine lotion & administering piriton......second time round although 1st time did seem a little too easy.

I am totally distracted & annoyed that the KG Salem metallic boots I had been eyeing up for ages have vanished, urghhhhhhhh

The road to hell is paved with good intentions.......here some of mine for the new year, I must:

be nicer....especially to K&F&T

pursue healthy living programme &  lose 1 st (exercise + eat more alfalfa sprouts + drink less wine....urghhh)

fix fence (now 3 x fences following winter storms, urghhh)
fix roof
fix chimney
put in new wood burner
put in new cupboard
become a domestic goddess.....this is just a start, I don't  want to be too ambitious
